Piazza del Plebiscito is the grand ceremonial square of Naples, a vast hemicycle framed by the curving colonnade of the church of San Francesco di Paola, modelled on Rome's Pantheon. Facing it stands the Royal Palace, and two bronze equestrian statues punctuate the open pavement. Named for the 1860 vote that joined Naples to unified Italy, the square is closed to traffic and serves as a stage for concerts and celebrations. Its scale and the sweep of the colonnade make it one of the largest squares in the country.
