Flores is the westernmost island of the Azores and one of the most remote inhabited places in Europe, notable for an exceptionally green and wet landscape of hydrangea-lined valleys, cascading waterfalls, and a series of crater lakes known as the Caldeiras Funda e Comprida. The island's small population, minimal tourist infrastructure, and UNESCO Biosphere Reserve status have preserved its landscape in a largely natural state. The combination of volcanic lakes, cliff coastlines, and mid-Atlantic isolation makes Flores distinctly different from the more developed islands of the central Azores group.
