The lake complex within the Sete Cidades caldera comprises two interconnected bodies of water — Lagoa Verde and Lagoa Azul — covering a combined area of approximately 4.5 square kilometres at an elevation of 270 metres. The water surface reflects the surrounding caldera rim of hydrangea-covered slopes, and the classic photography viewpoint from Vista do Rei frames both lakes and the entire caldera in a single composition. Kayaking and paddleboarding are permitted on the lakes and provide the most direct access to the caldera interior.
