At 2,426 metres, Roque de los Muchachos is the highest point on La Palma and hosts the Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos, home to some of the world's largest optical and gamma-ray telescopes including the Gran Telescopio Canarias. The summit ridge offers dramatic views down into the Caldera de Taburiente below and, on clear nights above the cloud inversion layer, exceptional stargazing. The road to the summit traverses a landscape of ancient rock formations and Canarian pines.
