The Caldera de Taburiente is a vast erosion crater in northern La Palma, roughly nine kilometres in diameter, encircled by cliffs that rise over 2,000 metres and drained by the Barranco de las Angustias. The national park interior is accessible on foot and contains dense Canarian pine forest, waterfalls, and the Playa de Taburiente river beach at the valley floor. The surrounding rim, particularly the Roque de los Muchachos summit at 2,426 metres, hosts a major astronomical observatory.
