Papagayo is a group of small sandy coves at the southern tip of Lanzarote within the Los Ajaches Natural Monument, protected from development and reached via a dirt track through arid volcanic terrain. The clear turquoise water and pale golden sand, framed by low rust-coloured cliffs, produce colours characteristic of remote Canarian beaches. Several coves in the group are sheltered from the dominant swell, making conditions calm for swimming.
