The Côa Valley in Trás-os-Montes contains the world's largest ensemble of open-air Palaeolithic rock art, with engravings of horses, aurochs, ibex, and fish carved into schist riverside cliffs over a 17-kilometre stretch of the Côa River. The Côa Museum at Vila Nova de Foz Côa provides context and organises guided jeep tours to the main engraving panels, most of which are accessible only on restricted tours. The site is jointly listed with Spain's Siega Verde as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
