Cascais is a historic fishing town and resort municipality on the Estoril Coast west of Lisbon, where the Serra de Sintra meets the Atlantic. Its 19th-century royal connections — King Luís I built a summer residence here — left a legacy of elegant mansions and gardens that coexist with a working fishing harbour and sandy beaches. The Boca do Inferno sea arch, carved by Atlantic waves, is the town's most photographed natural feature.
