Château de Chenonceau

A Renaissance château spanning the Cher river on a sequence of arches, its gallery extending across the water in a configuration unique among French châteaux. Associated with a succession of powerful women including Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de' Medici, its garden design reflects distinct personal tastes on opposing sides of the river. Boat trips under the château arches offer the most dramatic low-angle photography of the structure.
