An Italianate village built between 1925 and 1976 by architect Clough Williams-Ellis on a wooded peninsula in Tremadog Bay, Portmeirion is unlike any other settlement in Britain. Williams-Ellis assembled architectural salvage from demolished buildings across the country and combined it with his own designs to create a theatrical village of coloured stucco, campanile, and colonnade. The village became internationally known as the location for the 1960s television series 'The Prisoner'.
