The oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world, Windsor Castle has been a royal residence for nearly a thousand years. St George's Chapel within the castle precincts is a supreme example of Perpendicular Gothic architecture and the burial place of ten monarchs. The Long Walk — a three-kilometre avenue of elms and plane trees stretching south from the castle — provides one of the most formal landscape compositions in England.
