Kilt Rock is a coastal sea cliff on the Trotternish coast of Skye near Staffin, formed from a thick dolerite sill overlying vertical basalt columns that together produce a pattern resembling tartan pleating. Mealt Falls drops over the cliff edge directly into the sea below from a height of roughly 55 metres. A roadside viewpoint on the A855 provides a clear view of both the falls and the cliff face, with the best light in the morning when the rock face is front-lit.
