A rural site in Verdal municipality in Trøndelag where the Battle of Stiklestad was fought in 1030 CE, resulting in the death of King Olav Haraldsson, who was subsequently canonised as Saint Olav. The site includes a medieval church, an open-air museum, and a national cultural centre that together present the story of Viking-age Norway and the Christianisation of the country. An annual summer pageant with outdoor theatrical performances draws large audiences.
