A small island municipality in the outer Rogaland coast, roughly 18 kilometres west of Haugesund, and one of the most isolated inhabited islands on the Norwegian mainland coast. The island is known among ornithologists as a prime migration watch-point, positioned in the open North Sea on a major flyway between Scandinavia and the British Isles. A wind farm on the northern part of the island was an early demonstration project for Norwegian offshore wind technology.
