The largest glacier on the European continent outside of Svalbard, covering approximately 487 square kilometres across the highlands between Sognefjord and Nordfjord in western Norway, and protected within Jostedalsbreen National Park. The glacier feeds dozens of outlet glaciers that descend into surrounding valleys, of which Briksdalsbreen and Nigardsbreen are the most accessible to visitors. Guided glacier hikes on the ice surface operate throughout the summer season.
