Europe's largest mountain plateau, covering roughly 8,000 square kilometres across the counties of Vestland, Numedal, and Telemark, and protected as a national park since 1981. The plateau lies at an average elevation of around 1,200 metres and supports Europe's largest wild reindeer population. It offers extensive hiking and skiing across an open, rolling tundra landscape intersected by lakes, rivers, and rocky outcrops.
