A small village at the innermost end of Aurlandsfjord, a branch of Sognefjord in western Norway, best known as the lower terminus of the Flåm Railway. The village sits at near sea level and is surrounded by steep mountains whose slopes carry numerous waterfalls. The railway journey from Flåm to Myrdal is one of the steepest standard-gauge lines in the world, climbing some 865 metres in roughly 20 kilometres.
