Kirkjubøur on the southern tip of Streymoy is one of the most historically important sites in the Faroe Islands, containing the ruins of an unfinished Gothic cathedral from the 13th century and a well-preserved medieval church still in use today. The Kirkjubøargarður farmhouse here is said to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited wooden buildings in the world. The site sits low against the sea with views across the Kirkjubøfjørður to the island of Hestur.
