Strokkur is an active geyser in the Geysir geothermal area of the Haukadalur valley, erupting every five to ten minutes with a column of boiling water reaching 15 to 30 metres. The clear bowl of water swells and collapses slightly before each eruption, giving photographers a recognisable signal to anticipate the burst. It is among the most reliably active geysers in the world and the main draw at the Geysir site today.
