Goðafoss, the 'Waterfall of the Gods', is a wide horseshoe-shaped fall on the Skjálfandafljót River in north Iceland, historically linked to the adoption of Christianity as Iceland's official religion in 1000 CE. The falls span roughly 30 metres in width and drop about 12 metres, and the surrounding banks offer multiple perspectives from both sides. Winter ice formations framing the falls create a very different but equally striking scene.
