Snæfellsjökull is an ice-capped stratovolcano at the western tip of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, rising to 1,446 metres and visible on clear days from Reykjavik, roughly 120 kilometres away. Jules Verne used it as the entry point to the Earth's interior in his 1864 novel, and the surrounding national park encompasses lava fields, sea cliffs, and coastal villages. The glacier's summit can be reached by guided snowmobile or ski tour from the car park area.
