Ásbyrgi is a horseshoe-shaped glacial canyon in northeast Iceland, roughly 3.5 kilometres long and up to 1.1 kilometres wide, with cliffs reaching 100 metres on both sides. A densely wooded island of birch and willow — the Eyjan or 'Island' — rises from the canyon floor and provides trails through unusual interior forest. Norse mythology attributed its formation to Sleipnir, Odin's eight-legged horse, pressing one hoof into the earth.
