Dettifoss on the Jökulsá á Fjöllum river is considered the most powerful waterfall in Europe, carrying a grey-brown glacial torrent across a 44-metre drop into the Jökulsárgljúfur canyon. The scale of the flow makes it visually overwhelming even in overcast light, and the fine spray from the canyon carries surprisingly far. It lies within Vatnajökull National Park and is accessible from roads on both the east and west banks, each offering distinct perspectives.
