A glacial lagoon at the terminus of Breiðamerkurjökull, an outlet glacier of Vatnajökull, Jökulsárlón is filled with calved icebergs that drift slowly toward the sea. The floating ice ranges from brilliant white to deep blue and pale amber, providing remarkable photographic material in all light conditions. Small icebergs that wash onto the black-sand beach nearby — known informally as Diamond Beach — are a particularly compelling subject at sunrise.
