Almost no place on Earth is as untouched as Henderson Island, a raised coral atoll far out in the eastern South Pacific with no permanent human presence. Evolution has run its course here in near-perfect isolation, producing ten plants and four land birds found nowhere else — a living laboratory of natural selection. UNESCO inscribed the island in 1988.
