Sinan, the greatest of Ottoman architects, judged the Selimiye in Edirne his masterpiece — a vast single dome held between four needle-like minarets above the former Ottoman capital. Around the 16th-century mosque cluster its schools, covered market, clock house and library, while inside, Iznik tilework from the workshops' finest period covers surfaces with unmatched brilliance. UNESCO added the mosque and its social complex to the World Heritage List in 2011.
