Nhat Tan Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge over the Red River in Hanoi, opened in 2015 to connect the city with its main international airport to the north. Its five main spans are supported by five pylons, said to symbolise the ancient gates of the capital, and at night they are lit with changing colours across the water. Built with Japanese assistance, it was one of the largest bridges of its kind in Southeast Asia at completion. The sweeping approach road offers travellers a first panorama of the river as they enter the city.
