Steep Hill is a historic cobbled street in Lincoln that climbs sharply from the lower medieval town toward the cathedral and castle on the ridge above. Lined with timber-framed and stone buildings reaching back to the Norman period, it includes some of the oldest surviving domestic architecture in England. Independent bookshops, antique dealers and tea rooms occupy the ancient houses, and a Norman stone house partway up is among the earliest of its kind in the country. The demanding climb rewards walkers with grand views.
