Sala Sao Paulo is one of South America's premier concert halls, opened in 1999 inside the grandly restored Julio Prestes railway station in the city centre. The main hall occupies the former great hall of the station, its soaring space topped by a movable ceiling of coffered panels that can be adjusted to tune the acoustics. It is home to the Sao Paulo State Symphony Orchestra, widely regarded as one of the finest in Latin America. Guided visits let travellers admire the restored station architecture even without a concert ticket.
