The Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center is the grand main auditorium of the Met, opened in 1966 and seating nearly 3,800, one of the largest opera houses in the world. Its front is dominated by tall arched windows behind which hang two large murals by Marc Chagall, glowing at night over the plaza. Inside, sunburst crystal chandeliers rise to the ceiling as performances begin. The house presents a long season of grand opera with international casts and elaborate productions.
