The National Gugak Center in the Seocho district is the leading institution devoted to gugak, traditional Korean music and dance, with roots in royal court music offices centuries old. It performs court orchestral music, folk pieces, ritual dances and pansori epic singing, and it trains musicians to keep these forms alive. The complex includes several performance halls and a small museum of instruments. The complex also researches and archives centuries of Korean musical heritage for future generations.
