The national opera of Greece moved in 2017 into a striking new home within the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center on the coast south of central Athens. Designed by architect Renzo Piano, the building features a sloping green roof and a large glass-walled opera hall. It presents opera and ballet as the country's principal lyric company, having previously performed downtown. Set within a vast landscaped park beside the sea, it is one of modern Greece's most ambitious cultural projects.
