The Gentala Arasy Tower stands on the bank of the Batanghari River in the city of Jambi on Sumatra, an eighty-metre clock and history tower opened in 2015. Reached by a curving pedestrian bridge that spans the river, it houses a museum tracing the arrival and spread of Islam in the region. An upper viewing level looks out over the wide river, the old quarter and the surrounding lowlands. The tower has become a favourite gathering place at dusk, its white form and connecting footbridge a distinctive riverside addition.
