Perrott's Folly is a slender seven-storey brick tower in the Edgbaston district of Birmingham, built around 1758 for the local landowner John Perrott. Rising roughly 29 metres, its purpose has never been fully explained, with theories ranging from a hunting lookout to an observatory. Together with the nearby waterworks tower it is often cited as an inspiration for the Two Towers in J. R. R. Tolkien's fiction, as the author grew up nearby. The Grade II listed folly has seen occasional public openings.
