The Parc de Bruxelles is the largest public park in central Brussels, laid out in the eighteenth century in a formal neoclassical plan between the royal palace and the national parliament. Its geometric paths, converging on circular clearings, are lined with statues, fountains and rows of clipped trees. The park was the scene of fighting during the 1830 revolution that led to Belgian independence. Today its symmetrical layout and central location make it a stage for official events and daily strolls alike.
