The Markt of Delft is a handsome elongated square running between the Renaissance town hall and the soaring New Church, whose tower rises above the royal crypt of the House of Orange. Cafés, shops and the old meat hall line the sides, and market stalls selling flowers, cheese and antiques fill the square on market days. A statue of the jurist Hugo Grotius stands before the church. The square captures the tidy brick charm of the historic city and offers a memorable view straight up the church tower.
