The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Sohar is one of a series of large congregational mosques built across Oman during the reign of Sultan Qaboos, distinct from the famous mosque in Muscat. Completed in the 2010s, it displays the characteristic Omani style of a broad central dome, a single tall minaret and pale stone walls trimmed with restrained tilework. Spacious arcaded courtyards surround the prayer hall, which serves the coastal city. It reflects the sultanate's programme of dignified regional Friday mosques.
