The Abu Hanifa Mosque in the Adhamiyah district of Baghdad is built around the tomb of Abu Hanifa al-Nu'man, the eighth-century founder of the Hanafi school of Sunni jurisprudence. A major centre of Sunni religious life in the Iraqi capital, it is distinguished by a large dome faced in muqarnas tilework and a leaning historic minaret. The shrine has been rebuilt and enlarged many times since the medieval period and remains a focus of learning and pilgrimage. It stands across the Tigris from the Kadhimiya shrine.
