This French-influenced building on the western side of the Plaza de Bolívar serves as the city hall of Bogotá and the seat of the mayor. Completed in the early twentieth century after fire destroyed earlier structures on the block, its long facade of arcades and a mansard roof lends a European character to the historic square. Behind the frontage lie municipal offices and reception rooms used for civic ceremonies. Occupying one full side of the plaza, it forms part of the ensemble of government buildings.
