The Casa de Nariño is the official residence and principal workplace of the President of Colombia, standing just south of the historic centre. Built on the birthplace of independence figure Antonio Nariño, the current neoclassical palace dates to the early twentieth century and surrounds landscaped gardens and an astronomical observatory. A ceremonial changing of the presidential guard takes place on set days in the forecourt. Guided visits, arranged in advance, pass state rooms decorated with Colombian art and diplomatic gifts.
