Located near Parliament Hill on Wellington Street in Ottawa, this memorial honors Terry Fox, the young athlete who ran across much of Canada on an artificial leg to raise money for cancer research before the disease ended his Marathon of Hope in 1980. A bronze statue captures his distinctive running gait mid-stride. Fox became a national hero, and annual runs in his name now raise funds worldwide. The monument marks the symbolic point on his intended route through the capital and hosts commemorative events.
