This pyramid-shaped memorial in the Nasr City district honours Egyptian soldiers who died in the October War of 1973 and other conflicts. Built in the 1970s, its hollow concrete pyramid rises above a plaza where wreath-laying ceremonies take place on national anniversaries. Nearby lies the reviewing stand where President Anwar Sadat was assassinated in 1981, and his grave sits opposite the monument. The austere form deliberately echoes ancient Egyptian funerary architecture while honouring the country's modern armed forces.
