The Royal Jewelry Museum in Alexandria displays the sumptuous collection of the Egyptian royal family in a palace once belonging to a princess of the ruling dynasty. Its rooms hold jewel-encrusted crowns, decorations, watches, snuffboxes and personal ornaments assembled by Muhammad Ali's descendants. The palace interiors are themselves lavish, with painted ceilings, stained-glass windows and marble bathrooms embellished with romantic scenes. Together the setting and treasures evoke the opulence of Egypt's monarchy before the 1952 revolution.
