This private contemporary-art museum on the West Bund riverside occupies a striking concrete structure of vaulted, umbrella-like arches by architect Liu Yichun. Founded by a prominent collecting couple, it spans traditional Chinese painting, revolutionary-era art and cutting-edge contemporary work. The cavernous exposed-concrete halls give large installations dramatic room to breathe. Part of a cluster of galleries along a reclaimed industrial waterfront, it has helped make the district a centre of Shanghai's art scene.
