The Vanuatu Cultural Centre and National Museum in Port Vila is the country's leading institution for the preservation of ni-Vanuatu heritage. Its galleries display carved slit drums, ceremonial masks, canoes, shell money and artefacts from across the archipelago's many islands and language groups. The centre supports local fieldworkers who record custom, music and oral history. Sand drawing, inscribed on UNESCO's heritage lists, is often demonstrated here, offering a rich introduction to one of the world's most culturally diverse nations.
