Edson's Ridge

Edson's Ridge stands on the low hills south of Henderson Field on Guadalcanal, marking the site of a critical night battle in September 1942. There, a heavily outnumbered defending force held the high ground guarding the airfield through repeated assaults, in fighting so intense the position became known as Bloody Ridge. Monuments and plaques on the grassy crest honour those who fought and died, with views over the coastal plain and the airfield beyond. The windswept ground remains a place of pilgrimage for those tracing the campaign.
