Days Bay

This seaside settlement across Wellington Harbour is reached by a scenic ferry from the central city and has been a popular retreat since Victorian times. A historic wharf, a sandy beach, a heritage pavilion and cafes line the shore, and walking tracks lead into the wooded hills behind. The writer Katherine Mansfield holidayed here as a child, and the area appears in her fiction. Its relaxed bayside atmosphere makes it a favoured day trip from the capital.
