This coastal headland at the entrance to Lyttelton Harbour combines dramatic cliff scenery with the remains of a Second World War coastal defence battery. Walking tracks lead past gun emplacements, tunnels, barracks and observation posts built to guard the harbour, with wide views over the sea and Banks Peninsula. The exposed clifftops are a popular destination for walkers and cyclists from Christchurch. Interpretive signs explain the military history of the reserve.
