Located beside Christchurch Airport, this visitor attraction near the operational base for national Antarctic programmes lets guests experience simulated polar conditions, including a storm chamber with wind and snow. Displays cover the science, wildlife and history of Antarctic exploration, and a colony of rescued little blue penguins can be viewed. Rides in an all-terrain vehicle and a 4D theatre add to the experience. The centre links to the city's long-standing role as a gateway to the frozen continent.
