This mountain, also known by its Aboriginal name kunanyi, rises steeply behind Hobart and dominates the city's skyline. A winding road climbs through forest and alpine vegetation to a summit lookout at over twelve hundred metres, where a viewing platform gives panoramic views over the capital, the River Derwent and beyond, often across a landscape dusted with snow in winter. Columns of dolerite known as the Organ Pipes ledge the upper slopes and attract rock climbers.
